The directory records the commonly cited foundation or traditional date as 1673; where a date is traditional rather than documented by a surviving foundation record, that wording is kept deliberately.
The historic mother church of the former Varapuzha ecclesiastical tradition, built in the seventeenth century and connected with the Latin Catholic heritage of Kerala.
